Pip curled up with her tennis ball today and dreamt of summer.

Every time I passed the guest bedroom this afternoon, she was sprawled out on the bed with a forlorn look on her face and her ball at her side.   I think she was hoping that the tennis ball would bring out the sun.  No such luck.

I too am dreaming of summer, and I can’t wait for it to arrive!!

Lincoln refused to be left out of this blog post.  Just because he doesn’t love tennis ball’s doesn’t mean he can’t strike a cute pose.

  • erin - Ahhh the babies! I think they want to get some pics taken with their Mama :)

  • claire - awww, it does look like she’s missing summer. poor pup! i love that series. awesome light.

  • Noelle - i WISH i had some beautiful light coming into my rooms! so sweet

  • Heather - Awww, Pip does look sad. She is adorable with her tennis ball though. Those two couldn’t be any cuter.

  • sean - too effing cute

  • casey - Great shots. Pip looks sad because she’s seen Twilight 12 times.

  • lidia flanigan - i want to take your dogs on a walk. too cute!! :)

  • Kim Seidl - you need to post something new, cuz this one keeps making me sad!

  • todd pellowe - i love how your dog has the tennis ball in several different positions… please warm up so I can fetch.

  • Kate - You have a black lab that doesn’t like tennis balls? Crazy! I adore these beautiful photos. All of your work, in fact. But I do have a special soft spot for the doggies :-)

When I was young, I remember my Aunt Vickie pinching my cheeks until they hurt. I would swat her hand away, trying to protect my poor pink face. I can still remember the look in her eyes when she did it, and I remember thinking that she must be crazy. The other day while photographing little Gavin, I felt that familiar look spread across my face. Yes, I was going to do it too, I was going to pinch those cheeks! I had to. I reached down and pinched those chubby little cheeks, and I laughed. I can’t get enough of them. I guess I have come full circle in a mere 30 years.

I have been photographing children a little more these days. It’s really challenging to get them to do what you want. You can’t really tell them to “act natural,” unless, of course, you are this little guy. Check him out driving his car. It’s like he’s been driving for years.

One word to describe Gavin: ham.

  • Briony - what a beautiful little doll baby…that second pic is so sweet!

  • Gina - Seriously, how could you not pinch those cheeks? So cute.

  • Kim Seidl - you’re kind by only wanting to pinch. my first instinct is to take out a bite! he’s so cute! these are all great.

that last lower right pic is hilarious- he already looks like an old man driving.. “bah! get outta my way young-ins!”

  • Grandma - Hi Kim, Thank you for taking such adorable pictures of our little guy. We think he is pretty cute, too!

  • Sharon - “`Gavin you are too darn cute, you sure are not shy in front of the camera. Your second driving picture looks like your checking out a 2 year old blonde. Great pictures!

I’m Bored.

I can’t believe it. The last time I felt actual boredom was probably in the fall of 03′ when I still lived in Mammoth. (Too cold to hike, not enough snow to snowboard, small town…you get the picture.) I hardly remember what this “boredom” feels like. I am one of those people who have a constant to-do list swimming through my mind. There is ALWAYS something I should be doing. This quirky trait that dominates my personality drives Casey nuts, he is the complete opposite of me. I envy the way he can spend the day doing whatever he feels like, without feeling complete guilt of what he should be doing. I guess that’s why we work so well together, a yin + yang. Sure, I have the new promos/new sample albums/fine art website on my list at the moment, but those things are on the constant to-do list. All the pressing matters are taken care of. As I sat at my computer this morning, making my usual rounds, I realized my subconscious list was not yelling at me to get to work. Awesome. I’m going to bask in this so-called boredom because I know it won’t be around long. In fact, it will be lucky if it even makes it to the end of the day.

I love you boredom.

On that note, I thought I would share something a little more personal. (of course I had to create something to do.) Here are a few things that I’m in love with today…

First on the list: my new shoes. I’m sweet on this color yellow lately. Just got them in the mail, can’t wait to wear em’!

Second up: the new Neko Case, Middle Cyclone. I’m a big fan of Neko. I’ve been rockin this CD all day. The best part? A 31 minute song that consists purely of the sound of crickets chirping. It reminds me of a hot summer night. Give it a listen, you might like it too.

Last, but certainly not least: robin eggs. I love easter candy. If my candy isn’t a unnatural shade of the rainbow, I won’t eat it. Oh the layers: crunchy candy shell, milk chocolate , then a malty, whooper center. I find the best time to stop eating these little eggs is when the roof of your mouth becomes raw, or your throat starts to hurt from the malt. Yum.

I’ve got a few weddings coming up, along with some engagement + portrait sessions, so stay tuned for some new work. :) Have a great weekend!

  • kayla - Kim…you are the greatest…i’m sitting here…thinking of what i could be doing…but not wanting to…kind of bored..but not REALLY having anything to do…let’s go site scouting sometime next week…and the best easter candy ever…PEEPS!!!

  • Deann B. - Love it, Kim. If you don’t watch out, I’m going to steal those yellow shoes!! :)

  • claire - oooh, i’m digging those shoes.
i’m a big neko case fan, too; she’s awesome.

    enjoy your ‘boredom’!!!

  • Heather - Cute shoes! I’m with you on the Robin Eggs too. Yum!

  • Gina - Funny, I am currently eating those eggs while reading your blog. I love Easter candy.

  • Kim Seidl - i wish i was so on top of things that i was bored!

cure= come down here.. like.. tomorrow. we go on road trip, k?

WARNING: before you read on you must prepare yourself for total cuteness overload. Alright, are you ready? OK, proceed with caution.

Those lips, those wrinkles, how could you not fall in love with this little girl? I have a new found respect for newborn photographers, you must have the patience of a saint with these little people. To my surprise, they do not listen to your directions. Another job hazard: projectile pee + poo. Um, not what I was expecting…I guess it’s all in good fun. :)

I think this little girl is going to be quite a fireball, you mark my words.

  • Deann B. - These are fantastic! I love those round cheeks… and as always, both your color and b&w are awesome!

  • Briony - precious!

Wow those are some nice lenses, one day I will expand my collection. I have
a Canon Rebel, it has been a great learning tool. At the moment I have my
standard lens, a 70mm – 300mm Zoom lens and my newest is a 50mm that I am in
love with. I would love to get my hands on a 35mm, I am saving :)
I really love your blog too! Thanks for getting back to me so fast, sorry
for being slow. Hope you have a great week!

  • Kim Seidl - AAAAH! every single one is ridiculously cute!! you did such an amazing job!

  • Jodie - O my god she is sooooooo cute :) Congrats Auntie Kim!

  • Heather - Oh man, she is super adorable! You took some great pics as usual too!

  • James - I’m really starting to look forward to taking some epic Moes baby portraits. Thanks for the continued inspiration & good work.

  • todd pellowe - yup. total cuteness is right. love it!

Since I am a fireman’s wife, I tend to get a lot of fire fightin’ clients.  Most fireman have grown out some sort of awesome mustache, Nate was definitely one of them. He’s marrying Tricia this April, who happens to have one of the greatest smiles I’ve seen in awhile.  Here are a few shots from their e-session last weekend.
