Massi proposed to Caroline on the steps of an ancient cathedral in Italy on Christmas Eve.  It seemed only appropriate for them to choose a venue such as The Ruins to celebrate their love. The ballroom is ornately painted with colorful murals that are reminiscent of the frescoes in Rome and its stunning chandeliers and gilded dining room bring to mind the baroque beauty of Venice.  The day was darn near perfect, and definitely aligned with the vision they had of their day: romantic + magical.

  • Brooke Schultz Photography - These are seriously incredible. Love the posing, the skyline, the light, everything…gosh. Wonderful work!

There really isn’t a better place to get married than on a lavender farm.  With the relaxing scent of those purple flowers floating through the air, everyone can’t help but have a great time.  Fox Farm on Vashon Island is by far my favorite outdoor wedding venue for that reason- everyone (guests and wedding party alike) always seem to have the most relaxing and fun afternoon.

Becky + Eli put together a great DIY wedding; the girls made their own bouquets, the guys wore mis-matched socks and ties, and the family pulled together and baked a delicious array of cakes.  Add in the mix a snow cone machine, a photo booth, and a bunch of really great dancers and you’ve got a party!

I’ve been so incredibly lucky this year with the most amazing clients, Becky + Eli were no exception.  I laughed, cried, and danced beside them all day long and it was a blast! ♥

  • Aunt Janet - Beautiful beyond words. I love every photo.

  • aga - Great stuff Kim! Wish we had venues like that here!

  • Stacey - Oh my gosh, this looks like one of the most fun and “real” weddings ever… what a gorgeous vibe. And I love your capture of the snow-cones, ha!

  • Jerzy Modrak - Congratulations for these wonderful wedding photographs!

Colleen and Mike picked the most spectacular location to get married- the Riviera Maya!  The water is the most beautiful shade of turquoise.  (see first photo below- that is not photoshop) It has to be one of my favorite places to vacation, but now it’s my favorite place to work, too!

Even though I didn’t meet with Colleen and Mike before the wedding (they are from New Jersey) we instantly clicked when we met up the day before the wedding.  Friends and family from all over came to witness their union at a sunset ceremony on the beach.  Afterward the guests were invited to one of the great restaurants nearby at the Resort.  It was the first reception that I have ever been to where almost nobody sat down to eat dinner because they were too busy dancing!  Now that’s what I call a party!

All photos below were taken at El Dorado Resort & Spa in the Riviera Maya (except for the first which was taken from seat 11A) *Special thanks to Casey- love of my life and second shooter/assistant extraordinaire*

  • Evelyn - The photos are beautiful capturing Colleen & Michael’s happiest moments.

Ingredients for a unique and unforgettable celebration: a beautiful handmade dress, vintage shoes,  a 1930’s typewriter guestbook,  travel themed table settings, sushi cocktail hour, live performances by 2 talented and quirky bands, an intimate dinner at sunset, a variety of fabulous desserts, a flash dance mob, farm animals, a strong man piñata, vintage games, a photo booth complete with costumes,  and dancing under the stars…

I can only begin to describe the amazing day that was Peter + Amanda’s wedding!   I hope that my images convey even just a fraction of the emotion, fun, whimsy, love, and thought that was put into this sweet event, because I can’t seem to put it into words.  You just had to be there, and if you were, I know that it was a day that you won’t soon forget. ♥

Congrats to Peter and Amanda!!!

  • Amanda + Peter’s Vintage-Cinematic Wedding « The Temecula Farmhouse - […] Amanda + Peter’s Vintage-Cinematic Wedding Posted on April 29 by The Farmhand What happens when you take a couple with vintage style, unique taste, and cinematic flair? A whimsical wedding of course! Not only are Amanda and Peter a beautiful, genuine couple, they also have an eye for really great design. They began by creating an atmosphere that not only honored their eclectic style, but was also fun for their guests. Their wedding planner Francine was phenomenal as well as their photographer Kim Hayes. But enough of my yammering… time for the eyecandy! Amanda, the beautiful bride. Look at this wedding dress. Gorgeous! Love the picture on the left! Here comes the bride… Instead of a guest book, friends and family typed their well-wishes on a vintage typewriter. The Kiss No birdseed for these two. Guests threw popcorn as they made their way back down the isle. The new Mr. & Mrs. The tables All images courtesy of Kim Hayes Photography. To see more of Amanda + Peter’s wedding click here. […]

  • Deann B. - Still can’t believe you were in my old stomping grounds! Gorgeous shots, Kim. Truly amazing!

It was a rainy Monday in November, but I must say, it was pretty memorable for a Monday…

Tom + Kelly met at summer camp when they were just teenagers.  They had a summer romance and sadly parted ways at the end.  They kept in touch for awhile, but eventually lost contact and lived their own lives.   That is, until they found each other on Facebook years later.  (oh, the powers of social media!)

Tom and Kelly live in Alabama (Tom is also a great photographer- check him out HERE), but decided to fly all the way to the rainy northwest in November to say their I do’s in a very private ceremony at the Tree House Point in Issaquah WA.   (Which sounded crazy to me at the time- who would pick an outdoor northwest wedding in November if you didn’t live here?  But I’m glad they did, because it was awesome!)  Tom has always loved the northwest, and thought that the backdrop would be perfect for their elopement.  There were 5 of us total: Me, Tom, Kelly, the Officiant, and 2 hotel guests that served as witnesses.  (By far the smallest ceremony I’ve photographed to date!)  Tom and Kelly were clearly estatic that they were getting married!  It was truly an honor to see two people so in love finally getting what they want most in life- each other!  (maybe this is a tad cheesy- but I can’t help myself)  Congrats you crazy love birds!

I hope this giant posts makes up for my lack of post over the last two months.  Where does the time go?

Tom seeing his soon-to-be bride for the first time all dressed up:

  • Cozbi - LOVE love LOVE these photos Kim! WIDE range and a great unique-of-all-unique nuptials!

    I really adored these!

  • Dennis Bullock - Wow what an amazing setting!

  • michèle - The colors are just to die for. Gorgeous.

  • Deann B. - So awesome, Kim. I love all the emotion… I think photographing elopements is the new black. ;)

  • jen - holy cow. how did i not know about this place?! i want to go there… and have you be my paparazzi ;) stunning.

  • Gina - Totally worth the wait for these pics. The ones with the orange leaves are my favorite. Beautiful.

  • Tom - Jen, I saw it on an article about tree houses online. When I showed it to Kelly she said we have to get married there! I’m so glad I agreed.

I told Kim that I was jealous of her getting to shoot a wedding there. I knew with her talent, the backdrop, and not to mention the couple ;) that she was going to get some killer shots. Boy was I right, these exceed my every expectation. I could not be happier with our choice of venue or our choice of photographer.

Just a side note Kim, I learned that a 580 EXII and an 85mm 1.8 WILL survive almost 2 days OUTSIDE in the rain. In my bliss I set my bag down and didn’t realize it until we were in Seattle. I just dried them out by a fire and they worked good as new. Couldn’t believe it!

  • Winnie Forbes - Wow! Again…WOW!

  • Amanda Caines - Oh, Kim, I love this one. I can feel the love, and his expressions are priceless. Beautiful job.
