dreaming of summer

Pip curled up with her tennis ball today and dreamt of summer.

Every time I passed the guest bedroom this afternoon, she was sprawled out on the bed with a forlorn look on her face and her ball at her side.   I think she was hoping that the tennis ball would bring out the sun.  No such luck.

I too am dreaming of summer, and I can’t wait for it to arrive!!

Lincoln refused to be left out of this blog post.  Just because he doesn’t love tennis ball’s doesn’t mean he can’t strike a cute pose.

Gavin

When I was young, I remember my Aunt Vickie pinching my cheeks until they hurt. I would swat her hand away, trying to protect my poor pink face. I can still remember the look in her eyes when she did it, and I remember thinking that she must be crazy. The other day while photographing little Gavin, I felt that familiar look spread across my face. Yes, I was going to do it too, I was going to pinch those cheeks! I had to. I reached down and pinched those chubby little cheeks, and I laughed. I can’t get enough of them. I guess I have come full circle in a mere 30 years.

I have been photographing children a little more these days. It’s really challenging to get them to do what you want. You can’t really tell them to “act natural,” unless, of course, you are this little guy. Check him out driving his car. It’s like he’s been driving for years.

One word to describe Gavin: ham.

I’m Bored.

I can’t believe it. The last time I felt actual boredom was probably in the fall of 03′ when I still lived in Mammoth. (Too cold to hike, not enough snow to snowboard, small town…you get the picture.) I hardly remember what this “boredom” feels like. I am one of those people who have a constant to-do list swimming through my mind. There is ALWAYS something I should be doing. This quirky trait that dominates my personality drives Casey nuts, he is the complete opposite of me. I envy the way he can spend the day doing whatever he feels like, without feeling complete guilt of what he should be doing. I guess that’s why we work so well together, a yin + yang. Sure, I have the new promos/new sample albums/fine art website on my list at the moment, but those things are on the constant to-do list. All the pressing matters are taken care of. As I sat at my computer this morning, making my usual rounds, I realized my subconscious list was not yelling at me to get to work. Awesome. I’m going to bask in this so-called boredom because I know it won’t be around long. In fact, it will be lucky if it even makes it to the end of the day.

I love you boredom.

On that note, I thought I would share something a little more personal. (of course I had to create something to do.) Here are a few things that I’m in love with today…

First on the list: my new shoes. I’m sweet on this color yellow lately. Just got them in the mail, can’t wait to wear em’!

Second up: the new Neko Case, Middle Cyclone. I’m a big fan of Neko. I’ve been rockin this CD all day. The best part? A 31 minute song that consists purely of the sound of crickets chirping. It reminds me of a hot summer night. Give it a listen, you might like it too.

Last, but certainly not least: robin eggs. I love easter candy. If my candy isn’t a unnatural shade of the rainbow, I won’t eat it. Oh the layers: crunchy candy shell, milk chocolate , then a malty, whooper center. I find the best time to stop eating these little eggs is when the roof of your mouth becomes raw, or your throat starts to hurt from the malt. Yum.

I’ve got a few weddings coming up, along with some engagement + portrait sessions, so stay tuned for some new work. :) Have a great weekend!

WARNING: before you read on you must prepare yourself for total cuteness overload. Alright, are you ready? OK, proceed with caution.

Those lips, those wrinkles, how could you not fall in love with this little girl? I have a new found respect for newborn photographers, you must have the patience of a saint with these little people. To my surprise, they do not listen to your directions. Another job hazard: projectile pee + poo. Um, not what I was expecting…I guess it’s all in good fun. :)

I think this little girl is going to be quite a fireball, you mark my words.

Nate + Tricia. Engaged.

Since I am a fireman’s wife, I tend to get a lot of fire fightin’ clients.  Most fireman have grown out some sort of awesome mustache, Nate was definitely one of them. He’s marrying Tricia this April, who happens to have one of the greatest smiles I’ve seen in awhile.  Here are a few shots from their e-session last weekend.
